Community LEAP’s move from Harlesden to Kensal Green saw us get involved in more community development activities. In 2001, we raised the funds to build a brand new centre for the use of local residents, which is available for use for community groups and meetings. We support the dreams of a national title-winning teenage street dance group, Manic, by giving them free studio space to practice their routines.
We purchased a twin turntable, amplifier and speakers for local young people to practice their DJing or MCing skills. We have also purchased a pool table, a table football machine, a table tennis table, a TV and a Playstation to give the young people a variety of activities to choose from on the Hazel Road Community Centre youth nights. We have commissioned street dance, drama and singing tutors for those young people that want more structured activities. We have also organised excursions for them to places such as Alton Towers and for activities such as paintballing and go-karting. All our services for young people are completely free of charge.
We also provide local young people with information, advice and guidance, mentoring on an individual basis and help them with CV’s, jobsearch and placement into jobs.
LEAP currently receives no funding for our support to the community, but we maintain the provision because of our commitment to the people of the area in which we are based.
